Well the girls did very well yesterday at the funeral. Being that it was a Roman Catholic service, the girls now appreciate our Presbyterian Blended (contemporary & traditional) service. Not to put down this particular denomination, but it really is not kid friendly. Does a Church service need to be kid friendly? I think with all of the media and other stuff that can grab the attention of our little ones, keeping their interest is an important point for a church with young families.

They really enjoyed getting to see their cousins. They were pretty bummed that they have to leave today. The wife and I are talking about planning a trip to see them in Colorado.

Funeral Today

We are going to my brother-in-law's father's funeral. It is sad to see a loved one leave this place, but it is a blessing to think of what he is experiencing right know. Walking with our Lord is nothing to be afraid of. I am glad to be on a journey with him know. It is a shame that some have to wait a life time to begin that journey. I know that Joe is in a much better place! I am reminded of a great song, I Can Only Imagine by Mercy Me. It says it all.

Attending funerals are an experience when you are with children. My wife and I have never shielded our kids from death. We have always considered it a celebration of life.

We know a few adults that were shielded as children from all funerals, and to this day they hate having to go to them. Granted this is not something you should look forward, but you should be able to handle as an adult. One of these persons did not know how to act.

This will be our girls second funeral. There first was my nephew Ben. They handled themselves very well at that one, I expect the same for today. Of course we will have a mini huddle just before we enter the church so that the ground rules are installed and understood. We will see if they through any stumpers my way. You never know with my two. One saving grace, is that my wife will be there, what I can't answer, she will.

This morning I stopped at our local Giant Eagle for a Dry Cleaning drop off. I then realized that it actually resembles a mini community. You can do so much at a grocery store these days.

After missing three days of school...and developing a nasty cough.....my oldest has to go to school. I will wait until we are heading for the bus to give her dose of DM. I feel bad she has to go but she can't miss any more, she has missed a bunch this year already. I just hope it does not make the family cycle. So far so good. I will include healthy proceedings in my morning prayer.

Weekends always lead to Monday!

Another Monday. Our weekends are always hustling and bustling. With little time to keep up with the stuff I do throughout the week. I have a hard time concentrating on chores when the family is home in its complete form. So the dishes wait until early morning(when everyone is asleep) and laundry just stops all together unless there is something in particular that is needed to be clean. So my Mondays are usually busy getting caught up. This lovely Monday I had a Dentist Appointment, I really dislike going to the dentist. Oh well, I got through it.

Weekend Recap - Saturday morning My oldest and I went sledding, we had a blast! After some nice one on one time, we wandered over to my father-in-law's where my wife and youngest was. My wife did her Dad's taxes. We then had dinner there. His girlfriend made Lasagna and he made Liver. We(my father-in-law and I) ate the liver and everyone else ate the lasagna. It was all good. (Yes, I had a small portion of the lasagna after two servings of liver and potatoes.) I made a pig of myself, but it was so good. I find food tastes better if I don't have to cook it.

Church - PG (Pastor Gary) started a series regarding tough God questions. I already have some great one liner's for any discussion regarding God's authenticity. We sang "How Great is our God" by Chris Tomlin in our Praise Team. It sounded good but I would like to do it with out the backing track. Maybe I can teach it to myself on the guitar. I will add that to my list.

A nice dinner.......but not such a nice car ride.

So....last night I had dinner at AppleBees with my family including my mother in-law. She actually had the girls over afterwards for sleepover. Needless to say we had a very quiet morning. With intentions, to pick up the girls in the morning after going shopping for a new phone holster. Yes I did get the LG Env. I like it, a lot! It takes really good photos and videos. So as I was saying I was on my way shopping and our old van started to over heat. Needless to say I fortunately broke down in front of the 25 year old Planet Mart, so to retreat to heat I had a nice visit with employees at the establishment. Though the heat lamps felt good after sitting in my cold van for 30 minutes, the food did not appeal to me, I wonder if they had been warming there for 25 years. Needless to say I got the tow and retrieved our new van, went and picked up the girls and did find a holster to fit my phone. I have to come clean the sandwiches were semi fresh......there was a employee discarding old sandwiches and bring out new ones quite frequently. I still would not consider it made to order. I really should not judge I did not eat one.

Back to School

I would not be honest if I did not say I am a little glad that the girls are going back to school after the stint of staying home last week because of illness and this week (Tuesday & Wednesday) because of weather. I just need a little time to myself. I am anticipating the start of a fantasy racing league that my wife and I won last year as rookies. I am ready to shake things up again. We will DEFEND our championship!!!! LOL

Today I plan on going over to Verizon to do a hands on comparison of The Samsung's SCH-u740 with LG's EnV. The Boss(wife) and I are going to the Verizon Store to upgrade our phones on Saturday. I have a rough idea of what I want but need to compare in my hands.

Prayer.......

Last weeks Adult Sunday School was about Prayer. As we read scripture regarding prayer and The Lord's Prayer, I decided that I don't pray enough. It isn't that I am uncomfortable praying, I just don't take time to pray like I feel I should. I remember watching Joel Osteen a couple of months ago, he said "pray for every little thing in your life, even the simplest things". I will just have to start doing so. I know that patience is a virtue that often is not evident in me and my actions, with prayer and God's grace I know it can be.

Can't Shake it.

Well my oldest daughters pink eye has cleared up and I don't think any one else has acquired it. But, now she has an ear infection. I will attempt to have her back in school today.

My youngest has some heavy congestion with her head cold.

As for my cold I thought it was on its way out of my chest, but it has reared up with some heave congestion in my nose. Argh...... if this continues I will be forced to visit a doctor. I hate doctors!

Needless to say with us all being sick we missed our Ashe Wednesday Service. I'm glad I chose to sit out of the combined choir this year, I did not feel like I had any vocal obligation, just spiritual. I did still genuinely miss the service.

I am glad you are here. This is a new blog about me and my experiences as a Christian Domestic Engineer Daddy (stay at home dad). I have been a DED(SAHD) for five years. I started when my oldest (seven now) was two and my youngest (five almost six now) was one year old. Wow, what a whirlwind it has been.

This might not even be read by anyone, but it will enable me to keep a journal of sorts. My two daughters keep things quite lively around here along with church and school, and don't forget softball which will be starting up again in the spring. This year both girls will be playing. It should be a blast!

Current news: My oldest daughter was home yesterday and will be today also because of conjunctivitis (Pink Eye). This has given me some time to disinfect things, get laundry done, update our church's website, complete our Church's Family Album and scan some old pictures I have been meaning to scan for a while now. Today will probably be more of the same.

Report Card Rewards: Both girls reports came home yesterday with my youngest. Great reports for both! Straight A's for my oldest and Satisfactory Progression for my youngest. With my wife away on business, I gave the girls the reward of choosing where we would go out to dinner. Their favorite buffet was the chosen venue. My wife will not eat at a buffet, so their decision made sense. For me these all you can eat affairs is a love/hate relationship. I love having the variety, but it never fails......I eat way to much! My oldest picked up on my motto when eating at this particular establishment. As she finished her dessert "Daddy, will you roll me out of here". I didn't say it was a healthy one. One of these visits I will step away from the table before feeling like I am going to explode. My favorite part of the dinner.........Bread Pudding topped with Soft Serve Vanilla Ice Cream (the second helping always does me in!)
